7 years ago I bought a four year old stud colt because he was cheap and
he had straight legs, and he hadn't been started yet, so nobody had had a
chance to ruin him.

I bought him to be my eventing horse, but he showed absolutely NO
interest in the work. HE wanted to be a trail horse. So I said, fine,
but if you are going to be a trail horse, you are going to be a
competitive trail horse. At the same time, I had read about Lari Shea
winning the Tevis Cup in _Practical Horseman_ and figured that this was a
sport I could really get to like.

I am hoping that this year's foal will be a colt, and will be the eventer
that he never was, but I suspect that even if s/he is, that endurance
will continue to be my favorite horse sport.
