Tights for men who wont wear them.. way back when we all rode with jeans and
bloody legs.. we learned to wear nylon hose under the jeans..
could wear tights under sweat pants with cuff that wont ride up.. of course
if its hot..the sweat pants come off fast..
I have a really neat story about the first time I wore the tights without
jeans.. this was up north at an ECTRA ride in Johnstown PA a 2 day 50.
Jerry and I were both 'real riders ' ..we liked our raw legs ..well at this
ride we rode day 1 and without the knowledge of either, we put tights under
the jeans,
we noted that we were not sore after the 30 miles. We both came clean and
said we rode with tights..but we would not tell anyone..the next day was
going to be very hot..so i suggested to jerry we 'come out of the stall' and
ride in tights...
we would be the only men to do this..
we tacked up in jeans, then ran back into the our respective rigs to shed the
jeans..
I was wearing a BRIGHT BLUE pair with PURPLE running shorts and a YELLOW Tee
Shirt.. Jerry had SILVER and BLUE strips and Yellow Shorts.
We came out and jumped on our horses .. of course the whole ride was there
and ready to go..the ride starter and timer announcer was a real wild and out
spoken person.. he was at a loss for words.. just laughing etc. he could not
get the rider numbers called out.. to get us started.. the whole ride was
cracking up. The 'real' he-man riders thought we were nuts..we had a great
ride..the girls liked it..they have been riding in tights for a few years.
Buck still talks about that ride..
>From then on out we rode in tights and put together some very different
outfits.. really was radical back then..
this was about 1983 or so..it was the beginning of the trend in the ECTRA
rides..
I dont think anyone rides in jeans in ECTRA anymore.
Now to see the good-ole-boys from NATRC go with tights.. most still ride in
jeans BOOTS spurs big hats (no helmet) REAL Cowboys..
