Hi - Your friend's horse may not have Lymes. Most horses at least in the east,
have some antibodies to it becuase they have been exposed to it. Not all
horses get sick from it. When my horses have had it, and we did treat based
more on symptoms than blood test results, we used an injectable drug called
Naxcel, which is a cephalosporin I think. It's pretty expensive- think it cost
about 200-300$ for the entire treatment but it definitely works.My vet said
that oral tetracycline which is what doxycycline is, is not as effective as
Naxcel. Cornell is a great vet school - maybe the vet needs to call them back
and tell them that the horse is not responding to the medication. -Amy
