vosal fit

Could someone tell me exactly how a vosal is to be adjusted for "mild
leverage"? I have been using one off and on for about a year and really like
it but still don't really know where it should rest on the nose and how
loose the "shanks" should be. Should they be loose enough so that they rest
against the point of the chin when there's no pressure? If so then I find
they swing some at a trot....but if they are tightened up so there's no
swing then they are right against the jaw and the horse doesn't get a break
from them.

Is there some rule of thumb I can follow for fitting? Like two fingers from
somewhere or this much space between the shanks and the jaw?
