There ARE a FEW people out there that have won enough in IAHA sweepstakes to
make it worthwhile for them, but my guess is that most don't. Your best bet
if you are interested is to buy a sweepstakes nominted horse..If the horse
was nominated in utero (for $300) they are not very expensive. I have had
friends who bouhgt arabs to later find out they were sweepstakes nominated.

Rhett Butler, Lois McAfees arab gelding the rode to 15th place at the 1995
NACER in Flagstaff was originally bought for $750 ans was somebody else's
reject. Valerie and Danielle Kanavy have won a good deal of money as has
Debi Gordon (over $17,000 I believe) and Jan Worthington. Another friend of
mine nominated her mare a month or so before the IAHA Nat'l Championship
Competitive Ride in KY ('92 or '93...not sure)..luckily she had a very ggod
ride and was fortunate enough to win bringing her $5000 ($3000 to
nominate..maybe less then..at one time IAHA was offering a special deal).
Geldings, byt the way, win an extra 25%..so a Nat'l Champion gelding gets
$6250. Rhett Butler(lois McAfee), CBS Redman (Debi Gordon), and I believe
both Cash and Fire (winning ROC and IAHA Nat'l Championship at the same time)
won this amount each time as well.

I, personally don't care..I long ago gave up the "ego" to win and am now
"along for the ride" and enjoying it more without the "pressure".
