Rump Rugs and Riding Lights

Kathy,

I think you may want to check into the rump rugs made by Lovell of Mack. They fit very
well, are weighted to hang correctly, and are not very heavy, they have no lining or
insulation to make them too warm yet are waterproof. I've tried at least 4 different
style and these are the ones I like the best.

As to helmet lights, that's something I've done without because I found that taping
those small, battery operated flourescent lights to my breast collar worked much
better. No problems with the light getting in your horse's eyes, they give great light
to see the trail by with enough light cast in front to see overhanging branches and the
like. I rode with a helmet light just once and had to give it up after a couple of
hours, the extra weight on my head was giving me a headache. I do carry a small
flashlight with me in my fanny pack for those times when I need a little light in the
saddle for checking a map or something. I usually keep 2 or 3 of the flourescent lights
with me and send them out to the pit stops. Then, if the batteries in the one I am
using are getting low I just rip off one and tape a new one to the breastplate and keep
going.

Well, that's my 2 cents worth, hope you find it useful.
