I don't know how many of you out there have a regional (or even state level)
endurance organization to belong to but if you do and you don't then you
should :-)

I just returned from the SERA (Southeast Endurance Rider's Assn) convention
in Chattanooga, TN. In addition to meeting lots of riders from our region, I
heard talks on equine lameness, EPM, got to see what issues my board is
considering, and help elect new officers. Being a part of a regional
organization gives you a glimpse of the issues that face an organization
like AERC all the time but on a smaller scale. You'll see why the trail
system in your region is the way it is (hint: lack of volunteers!!!) or that
everyone else is also concerned about good, consistent vetting procedures.
You'll find out that they do too want to hear what you did or didn't like
about a ride and want to make it better.

Joining a regional org. also gives you a better chance to be recognized
within the sport as they often offer their own series or competitions within
the region where you might be recognized just for completing certain rides
as specified by the organization.

Regional organization membership lists are a great way to find training
partners too!!

You can find out if there is an organization for your region by checking out
the endurance home page, BTW.
