New to You and LMF

Hi everyone!

I'm new to Ridecamp so just wanted to say hello and give you a little
background info on my husband and me. We found out about Ridecamp through
friends from Alabama we met on the Internet (both my husband and I work for
an ISP). We live in a suburb of Seattle, WA and own two Pasos. I have a
Paso Fino mare (originally from FL) and my husband's horse is a Peruvian
Paso (originally from AZ).

I've always been interested in participating in endurance events and hope to
be able to do so in the not-too-distant future. I need to get my mare into
condition, but am not sure the correct way to go about it for endurance.
Also, I've heard that Pasos are good endurance horses; however, I'd
appreciate any feedback from people who use them for the sport or are
familiar with Pasos as endurance horses. My little mare, 14.2h, has lots of
heart and stamina and is great on the trails, but I'm 5'10" (though
light-weight for my height) and am wondering if she's too small for me to
use for endurance.

Also, I'd like to add my 2 cents about LMF. I use it for both our horses
but use different formulas for each. I've tried other feeds, but personally
have found LMF the best all-around supplement for our horses. We feed 3
flakes of timothy to the Peruvian and about a pound (2 cups) of supper
supplement LMF/day and 3 flakes of grass/alfalfa to my Paso and 6 lbs of
Development G LMF/day. Amazingly enough, she is only 700 lbs and he is 950
lbs. However, we're not working them very hard at the moment. I've found
that straight alfalfa causes my horses to become hotter than either grains
or LMF. And the Peruvian was 250# overweight when we bought him and he was
getting cob, corn oil and brewers yeast along with hay everyday from his
previous owners. If you want to fatten up a horse, just give 'em brewers yeast!

Happy day to you all....

Melody
