electrolytes

There has been some very interesting discussion on what different people
feed their horses, and speculation on minerals etc. I would like to hear
what is provided in the way of electrolyte supplementation to your horses. I
imagine this also varies from very simple to complicated, but would
appreciate hearing the full range!

The other thing I am interested in is how that electrolyte supplementation
is provided - in the feed, in the water, mixed up as a paste and syringed
into the mouth etc, and when the different methods are used, eg. every day,
training, pre-ride, during the ride, after the ride. The theory is all very
well, but I'd like to know what works for you.

The theory also is that providing water with sodium chloride and glucose in
it should increase the absorption of the water - there are special carriers
in the small intestine that work best if they have all three things to
carry. Has anyone tried this out? Gatorade for horses?!

Thanks in advance - I'm not in a position to judge what you are providing,
just want to get an idea of the different options that are used.
