Winter hoof woes & blankets

I can't be the only one with horses who have been standing in mud and muck
for weeks (or months as in my case). Does anybody have any suggestions on
what I can do? I am considering bringing in a load of sand or decomposed
granite - does anybody have a suggestion on which would be better for the
horses, and why? I am cleaning their feet daily and applying a bleach/water
mix to the bottoms, is there anything else I can do?

Horse blankets. What types of blankets do you guys use for turnout? I need
something really durable. What types of fabrics are most durable, what
types of options do you like the best, and the least?

I don't blanket very often, but when I do they really put the blankets to
the test. The ones I have now (N.Z. Rugs) have been patched so many times
the patches are coming apart. The buckles have been replaced and some of
the straps have too.

Happy Trails!
