Along the lines of the "abused" horses. I know this is not what most of
you want to hear, but I had a friend who had an older horse who she
loved to pieces. The horse was a rack of bones despite wonderful vet
care and tons of the best food available. It killed my friend to see her
horse like this, but she loved it soooo much, she didn't want to put it
down. Many a "caring" neighbor turned her in for abuse, time and time
again. Each time an officer was sent out, my friend would go through the
long, torturous story in detail of her and her vets attemps to keep the
horse alive. Finally, she decided to do the deed. The horror of her
story about putting her horse down was magnified by the fact that the
stable mate screamed and screamed and screamed when the old horse went
down. My heart goes out to all caring horse owners....it's the worst
decision to make.
