Helmets : Another Story

Susan and all:

I'd just like to follow up with my own helmet story for
this past weekend.

I'd taken my soon-to-be 3yr. Anglo Arab out for a short
ride. In fact, we were walking along slow and easy when
something spooked Commander from behind. He shot off into
a gallop, and as I tried to slow he down he protested and
began to buck... and buck ... and buck. This response was
almost entirely due to operator error on my part I'm sure.
I went sailing off on his left, landing hard on my right
hip (buttock), then came down on my right shoulder and
head.

I was up on my feet almost instantly. Not dazed at all.
Commander paused very briefly (almost as if to make sure
I'd survived?), then took off without me. I followed with
dog companion and met up with Commander at a neighbor's
house. After the mile walk home I took off my Troxel
helmet and found a large crack. I'm very glad I was
wearing the Troxel! I spent the rest of Saturday
afternoon, and all evening, with ice packs on my butt.
This was my only injured part, and today I feel almost
100%.

This afternoon the helmet and a check for $15 are on the
way to Troxel for replacement.

Everybody out there: make sure you wear the helmet!
