However, please be aware of a few things:

This year, we lost a horse to red maple leaf poisoning, after a 5-day
$1300 stay in the intensive care unit at the university (and that was
discounted!). We wished we had insured our horses! BUT....while we were
there, we met a horse who had been there for over 2 months, and was
expected to be there for at least 2 more. He was a wonderful QH,
insured for over $1 Million. He had foundered and had been on his side,
unable to stand for over 2 months. He had "stall" sores on his sides.
The owners want to put him down to end his suffering, but the insurance
company won't allow it. It was a grusome sight. I guess if we were
faced with that situation, we would forfiet the $ and go ahead and put
the horse down.

Just be aware that you may relinquish some control of your horse's
health care if you insure. You need to fully understand the terms of
your coverage (as with your own insurance).

I still regret not being insured. Also, as our vet constantly reminds
us...regarding my Arab...even though I didn't *pay* that much for him
initially, he would be difficult to replace at that same cost. So, he
has much greater value than his purchase price.

Just my $.02
