Cash Prizes (again)

hello,

I know that I already commented on this topic but I have a few more things
to say now that the red has passed from in front of my eyes.

I agree with all those who say it would potentially destroy most of what I
started distance riding to begin with. Personal satisfaction is the main
reason why I ride. I like the accomplishment, I like the accumulation of
miles. I like to finish. If I do well, Great! If I just finish, Great!
Also, I love the people on the trail and consider them good friends. I
would hate to lose them but I think many of the local level riders would be
shut out, myself included.

I am very very poor and can barely justify ride fees as it is. But I love
the sport, so I save for my 4 rides a season. If we have cash prizes, I
won't be able to afford increased ride fees. We won't be able to win any
money back. I can't run my horse into the ground - even if I didn't love
him, I can't afford to replace him.

The sport would lose at least one potential judge. I will be a DVM in less
than two years. I have 11 years of experience in distance riding, but if I
had to deal with the pressures of officiating an all-out race for money -
forget it.

Sorry to be so venomous, I guess the red haze was not completely gone. I
will leave now and keep my mouth shut...
