We fenced our place in smooth wire. It works great. I have seen them many
times go through it, over it, or just get a leg hung up and never a
scratch. 5.5 acres is relatively small (we did 100 acres) so you might
want to go with something more substantial. In our high use areas, we use
2 x4 mesh wire that it very solid and it works wonderful with wooden round
posts and a top rail of wood (landscape timbers).
