RE Karen C.. I am going to post a V-MAX HELP guide.. but for now here are few
hints;

1 Erattic reading..
-dry connections- use salt water or EKG gell---DONOT use KY JELLY --it will
not conduct correctly.. ALOE GEL works great..

-LOOSE battery in tranmitter.. the old POLAR transmitters use 2 small clips
to hold the battery in place.. as we ride an bash the unit around the clips
loose their spring and the battery jiggles and turns this causes noise
artifact,, bad reading.
FIX - install the battery 'plus' side down.. with a touch of silicon on the
BACk or plus side.. bend the clip to create a "C" like appearance and install
the clip.. put circuit board back--and assemble.

The NEW -V-MAX systems use a different component manufacture --with user
replaceable batteries.. a small plug on the back is turned with a coin and
the battery can be removed and replaced.. easy $3 buck and 30 seconds and the
battery is changed..AND it does NOT get loose with use... so POLAR is
OUT...and the new units are lower cost.

-LOOK for cuts in the wires.. small knick, with bare wire showing, will rub
on things and cause bad readings.

-The snap clips on the transmitter get loose with age... need to take a small
knife blade or screwdriver and carefully bend the two springs inside the snap
--to make it grip better.

One point many miss-- DONOT LEAVE THE LEADS CONNECTED to the tranmitter when
not in use.. The tranmitter may not shut off ..the electrodes may rub
together and keep the tranmitter sneding signals.. THUS the goes DEAD FAST.

-LOOSE GIRTH- big cause of errattic reading..

-NEOPREME-LEATHER.. slip alot.. need to use VELCRO band or patch, on these
girths.. I tried the moleskin on one of my neopreme girhts -it came off in 25
miles.. so I just use the WIDE 2" veldro band.. We have them if you cannot
find the wide stuff.

-Thats about the major causes of artifact readings.

things like dog fences, electric fences and POWER lines will also give bad
readings when you are close..or under them -- power lines...

DONOT WEAR AN ANALOG WATCH on the SAME WRIST WITH MONITOR..
it picks up the motor in these quartz watches and the monitor will read 60
all the time OR give errattic reading..

More Later..
