Water heaters are great, but they must be installed correctly. Read
the directions!!!! At separate ground wire should be attached to a
sunken metal rod and run into the water. that way should the unit
fail, you will not hurt your horses. Running the electric cord through a PVC
pipe works well, and the ground wire can be run through that. Also
the tank that Teddy mentioned is great, but you still have to protect
the cord. We place an insulated float in our tank to minimize
horse's dipping and playing.
