There were 46 riders from 5 states participating in the 2nd annual Paradise
Cup. This was my first Endurance Ride and I was rather apprehensive, but I
had nothing to be fearful of. My horse and I were well prepared from our
NATRC riding, and the superbly managed ride by Robin Kurtz left nothing to
chance. I was never confused - which is quite unusual for me!.The trail
consisted of a 15 and 10 mile loop with vet checks in camp. The well marked,
varied terrain and well maintained trail made it a blast to ride. there were
lots of fun Burma Shave type signs such as "Eat at Joe's" where they are
reported to have the prettiest catfish and freshest waitresses, while
touting "free beer tomorrow".
There were also riddles and cartoons. The 50 milers started at 7 am and the
25 milers started at 10, which meant people finished pretty much together,
so they were all there for the wonderful potluck held after the ride. And
Robin had really rustled the bushes to get some nice prizes which were
awarded not only to the top finishers but also Best Dressed Male,Best
Dressed Female,Most Colorful Mule,Best Managed Horse, best of the NATRC
riders, Best Vet Score 50, Best Vet Score 25 and HardLuck. I also really
liked the leader board which gave you an idea of how everyone was doing.
This was one of the most fun rides I have been to.
