Do Electrolytes go bad?

I found a dozen packets of powdered electrolytes while digging
through my girlfriend's barn/horsie cupboards. The packets do not have an
expiration date on them and she cannot remember how long they have been in
there.
Do electrolytes go bad? Is there any way to tell if they go bad?
What are the dangers of using them if they have expired?
Jacqueline, trying to save a few bucks but not if it will hurt her
horse!
