Sorry for the delay in this response. As a ride manager of both NATRC
competitive rides and AERC rides. I feel it is my responsibility to
provide a horse ambulance for the riders so that their horse can be
returned safely to camp. I feel that we are, as ride managers,
responsible for the safety of all the competitors both human and equine.
I do not have a trailer at each stop, but I do have a trailer that is the
designated horse ambulance should it be needed. Also, I would NEVER
leave a horse unattended such as the one rider was forced to do. Again,
I believe it is my job to monitor the wellbeing of each competitor. We
have had to use our horse trailers on several occasions, for such a thing
as an overheated safety rider, to a horse with a stone bruise, to a horse
with exhausted horse syndrome that needed to be hauled off the trail and
immediately to the vet. I have a beautiful section of trail that I won't
use as It takes too long to get "help" to in an emergency. (over 45 min.
one-way.)
