Hi Raina: With regard to my Orthoflex saddle . . . not only do I still love this
saddle, but all three of my horses love it as well. This saddle fits all three
very different body types, incredible! We are currently using it on the half
arab, half quarterhorse because she is the hardest to fit. I am using a Wintec
all purpose on the other two as it fits both of them well too but not the half
quarterhorse. I have never had a dry spot with this saddle, however, with the
wintec occasionally I have a couple of dry spots but not always. This leads me
to believe that I just don't get it on in the exact same position every time.
Do you suppose that is possible? In all saddles that I have used that have not
fit properly the dry spots are always on either side of the withers. A good
indication that this may occur is when the back of the saddle does not lay close
to the horse's back. Some people use risers to fix this, but I find it usually
means that the front is actually too wide and is laying too far down on either
side of the withers. As a temporary fix when necessary, I use two foam pads on
either side of the withers and down a little (not very strategic directions, I
know) to bring the saddle up at the front which will also bring it flush with
the back so the saddle then sits level. I hope someone can give us more feedback
on this method. You are welcome to use my Orthoflex anytime. The next time you
ride the tree farm, give me a call and pick up my saddle for the day. You have
to give it back though! Later, Joyce.
