Wendy - maybe you should submit a proposal to AERC, probably
the competitions committee (?) chaired by Steve Johnson. I
think it's a good idea too to have some published standards.
I don't think the Netherlands' practice is a total solution, but
I like the idea of working towards some standards for AERC rides.
Adequate course marking is SO VERY important. It's conceivable that
a set of trail marking standards could eventually be included
in the AERC ride manager's packet.
