Our APCI events newsletter contained some good tips on heat and water
intake for the athlete. Thought it might to good to share now that
summer is (finally) here.

General tips:

1) Drink 8-10 glasses/day
2) Drink before you get thirsty
3) Use water to cool your skin during activity
4) Wear light, loose clothing

During exercise:

1) Drink at least 2 1/2 cups or 20 oz of fluids prior to event
2) Drink 2 more cups 10-15 minutes before event
3) Drink 1/2-1 cup every 15 minutes during the event!!
4) Drink more fluids after the event until weight lost during the event
is regained.

Water is the fluid of choice. Dilute fruit juices and sports drinks to
no more than 10% sugar.

Drink chilled fluids, as they enter the system faster than warm fluids!

Bon appetit!
