[endurance] Question for Vets.

There is currently a discussion in NATRC that the use of Vinegar is
something that should not be allowed.
The thinking is that it has liniment like qualities and would act
as a liniment or "brace" if rubbed on the skin.

Another thought is that it would have the same properties as alcohol if
used in a spray bottle and sprayed on the horse,(the theory behind the the
alcohol use is that it can be used as a cooling agent).
And a final idea being discussed, is that vinegar, if used in high
quantities, can either test positive for some type of drug or is perhaps
considered a masking agent.
I am asking if in your opinions these are true statements? In
NATRC we are not allowed to use what is considered to be anything more
than regular water to cool the horses and we are not allowed any type of
liniment or brace until the competition is over. There are a lot of people
who use vinegar in their fly sprays and some people use it as a feed
additive with the ideas that it will repel flies and some use it to
prevent enterioliths (s.p.?)
I really don't want to start a debate over the NATRC rules, but
I would like to have your opinion about the properties of vinegar. I
had never heard of these ideas or even considered them until it was
recently brought to my attention. Thanks for any input.
