Guess I'll throw in my info... I'm 5'6" and weigh in with saddle and the rest
of our tack at about 190#, making us a few pounds above the bottom edge of the
middleweight division.
Ben Amil, an Egyptian gelding, is 14-3 and weighs a whopping 786 pounds,
pre-ride (weighed on an electronic scale at last year's Biltmore Ride). It
was a bit alarming to me to find that he lost over 50 pounds by the time we
got our completion at that ride! Vet scores were pretty good, attitude great,
cap refill and skin-tenting good, just a lot lighter... The BC vet commented
that we looked great and should be doing 100's so we are entered in the
Biltmore 100 this year.

Southern Rock, our youngster, is slightly taller and heavier, but otherwise
very similar to Ben. No attempt was made to get a larger horse - it just
happened that way. I would not be bothered by having a horse smaller than
either of the ones we have, either. These little guys are tough.

One aother advantage for us - Ben Amil does double-duty as my 10-year old's
Pony Club horse and he looks plenty big for her!
