Road founder has both a "local" and a veterinary definition--you can look
it up in most vet manuals. It's severe bruising of the foot from
excessive concussion. Kasey suffered from a bad case after doing miles
of blacktop at the Groundhog 75 (Kevin quit at 62 miles in disgust, but
not soon enough). You could see angry red bruising all around the
outside of the hoof, even on the darker portions. When the shoes were
pulled, there was red everywhere on the soles--all 4 feet! We had
multiple abscesses, out the bottom, through the side of the hoof, you
name it. It took all winter to clear this up along with mega-doses of
Farrier's Formula and Biotin/Methionine (Bio-Meth). Also put Slypners
on--it's helped a lot!
