[endurance] Conditioning -- Hills -- followup question

>From the ongoing discussions both now and over the previous months I think
I have gathered some idea about distances used in conditioning the horse
for endurance riding.

The more recent discussions have focused on hill climbing. Although there
has been some discussion about it, there (at least so far) been much less
quantatative discussion about the ups and downs for training.

There was also the comment that the Tevis has 30k (I assume that means
30,000 feet) feet of elevation gain. If that is correct, that is about
1250 feet an hour if the slowest pace (24 hours) is used. Winning times
would come out to *about* 2500 feet per hour. The message said elevation
gain. Since the ride does not end at 30,000 feet :-) there also must be
some downhills. This leaves even less time for climbing which suggests
that the short term climb rate must be more like a rocket launch.

Anyways, the comments that I have seen so far have been useful and illuminating.
If someone cares to comment further about the points that I have mentioned above,
I will be looking forward to the responses.

Enough for now
