Some things that might be useful to carry:

Alcohol wipes
4 x 4's
Vetwrap
1 or 2 triangular bandages
(these are small when folded up and can be used for a variety of things)
Bandaids
Knife or scissors

Other items can be added depending on the persons preference, and how much
you want to carry. I also carry a CPR shield and rubber gloves. There are a
few other survival related items I carry in my saddle pack as well:

2 glowsticks
1 multi-tool (pliars, knife, etc.)
basic first aid kid (listed above)
1 plastic trash bag (can be used for several things - shelter, poncho, etc.)
1 notebook of 3x5 neon cards - can be used to leave notes/directions or
trail markers
and one pen/marker AND a pencil (in case one or the other doesn't work)
powerbar, trail mix
kleenex
electrolytes
spare change
hoofpick
chapstick
aspirin, allergy pills
small lightweight windbreaker w/hood
whistle
compass
matches & dryer lint soaked in vaseline in film canister (for fire starter)
duct tape wrapped around the pencil
leather tie strings
sm. flashlight
1 pr. shoelaces
1 spare rope halter
lead rope (lightweight)
stethoscope & watch with second hand

If you place some of this stuff in an extra large baggie you can also use
the baggie as a support pillow to splint a shoulder/arm injury. That's
where a little imagination comes in handy.

I also carry the obvious things - water bottles, sponge, easy boot, etc. On
long rides will also carry foldable collapsible water bucket with some bran
in it tied to top of saddle pack, and treats for the horse. I just recently
put dog tags on all my halters, bridles, and saddles.

P.S. I'm sure I forgot to list something!
