I have enjoyed seeing what everyone is carrying and I especially liked the
idea of I.D tags on the horse and/or rider. I am going to have to do that!

One of the things that I always do is to carry everything I need for my
survival on ME.This generally consists of a hip pack with:2 power bars(been
there since last May, I have no intention of actually eating one unless I
hafta), a mylar blanket, Plastic poncho, whistle, glow stick, matches in
waterproof case, a Good pocket knife, a big plastic bag, gauze, vet wrap,
asprin, 25ft of parachute cord, an inspirational/ motivational/ calming type
verse (to help bring me back to earth, we had a man hike up a canyon near his
home and become lost. He panicked and began running, he was found dead from
exposure 1/4 mile from his house and 1 mile from downtown Salt Lake City. If
he could have calmed down he would probably have made it home.) All of this
fits in a small hip pack that wieghs only 3lbs. I also put my rider card in
the outer pocket. If there is minimal water on the trail I also carry at
least one water bottle on me. The trick is, if I need the item I carry it.
That way if I become separated from my horse I don't become separated from
nesessary supplies. The horse carries all the things that she needs.
Easyboot, electrolights, sometimes water, a sponge, rump rug, hoofpick,
horsetreats etc. (and from now on an I.D. tag)

This may be old news to some of you, but my riding partners had never thought
of it before yesterday when we began discussing some of the other posts. i
may be a little paranoid sounding, but I was raised by an old Scout Master
(always prepared) who won't let me out on the trails to this day without at
least a knife, a whistle, some string and some matches. Happy and Safe trails
everybody!
