We thought about buying GoreTex, but we were told that with
breathable fabrics, unless they were kept spotlessly clean they soon
lost their waterproofing. Since keeping clean does not seem to be
an option , and GoreTex jackets are 200 UK Pounds +, we passed.

Ideally I'd like a lightweight waterproof coat for riding, cycling
(off road twice a day) and general wear round the stables, but I
guess it just isn't possible.
