g'day anne,

i'll second the "overall soreness from compensating for the tendon"
theory. my horse, dippa, did just that a a ride last year. his wasn't
tendon damage, he'd strained a suspensory in some mud, but he did his
darndest to keep going and ended up sore in the back and the
hindquarters. it recovered in a few days, but of course the suspensory
took longer.

current vet theory here (in australia) is NOT to completely rest a bowed
tendon. they prefer horses with this injury to be turned out into a
paddock full-time, and given very gentle work - mostly walking, build up
to some trotting on good ground etc over SEVERAL MONTHS. but certainly
NOT stall confinement, at all.

there is also some horrible smelly stuff we put on bows - daffs lotion, i
think it's called. heard of it? i can try to find out what's in it if
not. but it does seem to help.

good luck!
