Thanks everybody for all your replies and advises concerning my lame mare.
Her overall physical condition is back to normal, as Mike said it would. So
now my only problem is the tendon, but I think you were all right in saying
that she hadn't had enough rest or time to heal. I will try to find a vet
who will examine her by ultrasound and take it from there. Here are answers
to questions some of you asked. No I didn't have a complete bloodwork though
I wanted to, because the vet told me it wasn't reliable as the results can
vary for any small reason (e.g. if the horse is exited, anxious etc). I will
insist upon it though. Yes I am sure that I'm giving electrolytes in the
right proportions but I'm not sure that what I'm using is good. She's
getting Apple-Dex and it sounds quite familiar with the Stress-Dex Diane
advised me not to use. Is it the same thing just with apple flavor added? Do
you know of any good ones? I don't know of any metabolic problems that my
mare could have had; I've had her for 4 years now and nothing of the sort
has ever happened, but of course I don't know what could've happened in the
years prior to that. The problem with the shoeing has been laid to rest but
it took me a long time to realize that this was the problem. Her urine,
amount and color were normal.
My vet does not believe in stall confinement either so I walk her every day
for about 25-30 minutes with no weight on her back though and bandages. I
can't let her loose in the arena because the first thing she'd do is get
into a good gallop, break, turn around and gallop again; not very advisable
for the tendon...Then I make sure she gets some cold water on it. Using
mineral ice is a good idea. What is the Norfield Magnetic Therapy?
Sorry, this ended up being really long again.

Anne.
