Tommy--

I think I said 4-5 MPH for Region 1 (we have lots of hills). Actually the
rule book for Open division says horses have to be at least 60 months old
(actual foaling date) and specifies mileage and pace as follows:

"b. Mileage
(1) Mileage in this division is 25-35 miles for a "B" ride (one-day),
50-60 miles for an "A" ride (2 days), and 80-90 miles for an "AA" ride (3
days). In steep and rugged terrain this distance may be shortened.

c. Pace
(1) The pace for a ride in this division shall be in the range of 4-6
miles per hour, and when determining the timing of the ride, management must
consider, among other relevant factors: weather, terrain, season of the year
and footing on the trail.
(2) "Riding time" use to compute the pace shall not include lunch and
P&R stops."

Novice division requires horses to be at least 48 months of age and puts
mileage at maximum 24 miles for one day, 40 miles for two days, pace 3.5 to 5
miles per hour.

Please come try an NATRC ride. They're not all that different. Wish I had
the $$$, I'd got to Arizone March 23-24 and then on to Texas March 30-31. Oh
well. Maybe next year.
