Once conditioned for a period of time human athletes spends more time
working on skill levels, refining their condition and peaking for
competition rather than basic conditioning. The goal is to maintain
condition while building strength, speed, etc.

I think the same is true for horses. I too only work Misty about 30 to 35
miles per week and much of that work is to build strength and speed rather
than basic conditioning. It's basically a fast 6 to 7 miles midweek and a
longer 25 or so on the weekend. This seems to work well for 50's and
100's.

Dan is just starting so he gets a lot of LSD, but that but he still only
gets a max of about 30 miles total per week.

And the bottom line for me is that is all the time I have to ride.
