Karen,

Here is all the information I have on Molasses and this is why we do not
recommend feeding sweet feeds etc.

Molasses contains preservatives and surfactants. Surfactants are used to
reduce build up of molasses on application equipment and to also make it
easier to pour.

Commonly Used Perservatives:
Propionic Acid (this is commonly used because it is cost effective)
Sodium Benzoate
Calcium Propionate
Acetic Acid (acidulant)
Ascorbic Acid

Commonly Used Surfactants
Propylene Glycol
Propylene Glycol is testable in the saliva and the urine horses.

Both chemical preservatives and surfactants are hard on a horse's digestive
system. What I mean by "hard" is they have a tendency to deplete beneficial
microflora, just like any chemical does.

Molasses can be ordered without chemical preservatives.

I hope this information helps you.
