I had a rider die of a heart attack on a ride...right in front of an MD!!!
Everything was done withon our power...to no avail. The entire situation
was tough on everybody, but the little things which we don't even consider
were a headache, too.

He can alone...no one knew his vehicle (but we found out). He had it
locked..trying to find the hiding place for his keys was a job. When we
found his wallet and gave it to the hospital (or EMT's, I don't remember
which) they called his wife and were not very tactful about it...a real
tragedy. We had to find a place for his horse...luckilly someone who lived
hearby was willing to take horse home....the park rangers INSISTED on keeping
his rig, but didn't want to be responsible for the horse. But his family,
though in shock, was wonderful and even donated a rotating trophy in his name
because they knew how much he loved this sport.

We now have the local firemen's rescue unit on the grounds all day (the
ladies we have hired to do our food concession and they are wonderful) We
have only needed them for minor things since then, but their attitude has
been great and I think they enjoy seeing us crazy people ride in rain and
camp in mud!!
