>>Kimberly,
I started competitive trail 3 years ago on a show ring horse. We nearly
killed each other on our first few rides. I was pulled from first 4 rides.
I didn't think i would ever finish one.
I went to a John Lyons symposium, then a clinic, then an
apprenticship. In our second year my horse got novice heavyweight horse of
the year in region 4(Texas Aansas, Oklahoma Lasousiana). I received the
same award for horsemanship. I strongly recommend going to a John Lyons
symposium. It doesn't cost much, and you can get a real eye opener on
training. You can check out his schedule at http://www.txranger.com. If
your a self learner his symposium tapes are great(same address under
"training" they cost $185 for the 6 tape set, or $39.95 for each tape.

There some other excellent horse trainer classes out there. Find the one
that clicks for you!

The point is endevor to persever! Your experience is not unusual.
Your horse is not nuts. You are not crazy. Your horse will learn what you
want, you will learn how to tell him what you want, and those miles of
experience will pay off. To quote John," there is room for only 2 emotions
when working with horses and mules, patients and humor.
