Well the Frosty 50 certainly lived up to its name this year!!!!

Forty some odd riders showed up and vetted in this past Sat. for
Mary Coleman's frosty 50 ride. Never mind that it was pouring
down rain with gale force winds(what's a little water? right?). Anyway
the temperature was fairly mild and the prediction was for clearing -
dry, cold and windy for Sunday.

As it got dark the temp. started falling, but no problem!!! All of us
drowned rats converged in the lodge to partake of the EXCELLENT
hot meal provided by ride management(Best meal I have ever had on
a ride!!!!) and warm by the woodstove and do our best to dry out.

The ride meeting commenced as soon as supper was over with Mary
shouting to be heard above the rain pouring down on the tin roof of the
lodge. The meeting was short, sweet and to the point and of course
ended about the same time as the rain on the roof. "Good - it's
quiet, the rain has quit - ALRIGHT!!!!!"

Well, the rain had quit alright --- we were now in the middle of a........
(you guessed it) BLIZZARD!(Yes...I mean the kind with snow, wind
and cold!)

Ride morning showed up cold and white - a couple inches worth. After
debating whether to ride or not and deciding that the roads were too
dangerous to drive my rigg on I decided I might as well try the trail.
I tacked up Tabriz(who thought I was totally crazy!!! and was probably
right) and headed over to join about 20 other crazies who had also decided
to ride.

To make a long story short....The trail was much better than anyone
had anticipated and with everything blanketted in white and the sun
coming up it was really spectacular. It was quite cold but once we all
got our stiff bones moving it was fairly comfortable. All in all Tabriz
and I had a WONDERFUL ride(even with a bit of a shoe problem) and
finished nice and easy.(I had plenty of horse left but not much for
shoes.....but then I didn't start with much either after Fort Valley 100!!)
I think everyone else also had a fairly nice ride, only one horse was
pulled for lameness and as far as I know there were no other
problems on the trail.

Thanks to Mary for an extremely well run ride! And yes we all are
crazy but tough! I guess that is why they call it endurance!!! Tabriz
and I will be back next year!!!!!! Mary says the ride will be in Oct.
(Oct. 20) and that will be frosty enough!!!!
