We also rode in the dark, with no lights, out on the road. Luckily it was a
back road, but darn if people weren't going just a LEETLE too fast! I am
going to a least get reflective tape. BTW, there was no moon, and I am out
in the country, like i said, but the road shone enough from ambient light
that we had almost no problem seeing where the edge was. HTe only problems
we had were people with brights coming straight toward us, momentarily
blinding us enought that we couldn't even see right under our own feet!
Anyway, ALy was pretty funny, spooky for about the first hour of DARK
riding. He thought the shadows of poles across the road were jumps (I
haven't ridden much in the dark!) so I had to assure him it was fine, but he
still wouldn't trot for a while. Then toward the end, he started trotting,
so we had a pretty good time for our 25--4:40, with half in the dark. So, I
guess the KY doesn;t do anything for us, and I washed his girht area when I
got home and will put some betadine or Desitin on it tomorrow (if I can find
it!)
It was a bit scary, but I liked riding in the dark! Now I just need some
reflective tape. I don't think the cars had any problem seeing us, but I was
pretty dumb in wearing dark sweatshirt and he is a bay horse! Lucky he DOES
have 4 white socks. THat probably helped some.
