My mare has always been really high anyway. And LOVES to RUN! My
problem is that now that she is in endurance training, she has even MORE
energy (if that's possible). Usually it's not a problem. But now that
the rainy season has set in here in Oregon, the field is to wet to let
her run (or even fast trot) for a while. On the trail it's not a
problem. But at home, when I just want a small ride, I have this
incredibly high horse to deal with. Plus, she's nearly impossible to
tire out! We have been doing lots of dressage work, and that's helping.
Also, I've gotten a permit for the local fairgrounds arena. I thought
that in there, no matter what the weather, I could let her canter in
circles to her hearts content. Also, we'll be able to do difficult
figures and patterns, which make her think and keep her busy.
What do other people do?? How do you all deal with these high endurance
horses, when not on the trail, and you just want to work a little??
Thanks, Marisa
