[endurance] Loose girth/bareback

We had a rider in this region who rode bareback in AERC rides.
There were often comments about it being unfair to his horse's
back to have just the seat bones as points of contact rather
than a saddle.

......doesn't Len Brown of Orthoflex say that its easier
on the horse to spread the body weight out over more square
inches of saddle...that a heavier rider using a light small
saddle does't do the horse any favors....and I think it
was in his literature that I read about keeping a tight
girth...

But what are we judging tight by...getting a few fingers
inbetween ? I am judging tight by having it tight enough
for me to mount unassisted and the saddle stay put.And I'm
a heavyweight rider age 51 with occasionally uncoordinated
days when I have to drag myself up without much grace.

Never had any problems with girth galls. Use a neoprene
girth on Orthoflex traditional saddle, vintage 1989.
