In regard to loose cinches and saddle fit.
I think if the saddle stays put it means it fits and if it doesn't it
probably doesn't fit the horse very well. I forgot to cinch my saddle at a
vet stop on the Paulina Peak ride at the top of the mountain. I rode up
some more, down about 6 miles and lots of that was real down, at the water
stop I got off the give my horse electrolytes and noticed the cinch hanging
with 2 or 3 inches of air between it and the horse. I had a breast coller,
but I didn't notice it slipping back hard against it and I did not have a
crupper. BTW it is a wintec endurance, (western without a horn). We also
have a big horn, it fits our smaller horses, but not the big one that my
wintec fits. The big horn will not stay put on one of our horses and on 2
of them you can ride with the cinch very loose and it never moves.
