Gwen,

There is no rule that all vet checks need to be the same criteria.

Up until a few years ago every vet check had a different criteria. Iit
seemed everybody (rider and more importantly, P&R people) was getting mixed
up what could go through, etc., but most all the riders were used to it and,
while they complained, not much was ever really effected by the mix-ups.

Lately, though, it has become accepted that one criteria is set at the
pre-ride meeting for the entire ride. That way nobody can get it wrong.
This also means that different criteria for a cold, windy first vet check
and a lateer, hot, humid vet check are not possible.

Both sides of this idea (simple vs. tailored) have merit. The riders need to
let the management know what they prefer. The pendulum swings every decade
or so. Maybe it is time again.
