LD Rides

Just wanted to add my opinion on the maniacs at LD rides. I agree with
everyone that LD rides should be viewed as training rides. We have a 9
year old son who rode two LD rides on a green 4 year old horse this
year. His horse, Hickory, is a remarkable animal and takes care of
Daniel when they are out there. But he is still a young half-arab horse
that could easily become excited or spooked by riders charging to the
finish line. Because of this, they always leave late (with Dad) to avoid
the crowds at the start. However, on the second loop they occasionally
get passed by those "racing to the finish".. It scares the hell out of me
imagining what could happen to the two of them because of some reckless
cowboys. In addition to the threat they pose to their own animals, they
are a danger on the trail to other rookie riders and horses.

Strict criteria, and no placings will probably not slow them down. They
are often just racing against each other. Perhaps not being allowed to
enter rides for 6 months would get it through their thick skulls? Just
a thought!
