LIMITED DISTANCE RIDES

It is very unfortunate about how limited distance rides have evolved.

When I first started riding endurance about 9 years ago, 25 mile rides
were "training" rides with no placements assigned. No one recognized
first place. When the ride wasn't too big, and the veterinarians had
time, they would judge a best condition. All entries were eligible, and
several might be awarded. I started out on these, and they were great
for teaching me and my young horse the "game" of endurance riding.

I believe that AERC does not track placings of Limited Distance rides.
They also separate the mileage from the "endurance" mileage that a rider
accumulates.

I cringe when I hear people say the "won" a 25. I know that these people
have reached a personal accomplishment, but I think that this kind of
racing is too hard on the horses - especially the new ones to the sport.

It sounds like limited distance rides are not a good training venue
anymore.
