Just putting in my 2 cents. I haven't hauled with friends often, but
when I do I always pay the whole gas bill in general "here's $10 will
that cover your gas or do you need more?" I pay it up front! So they
don't have to ask for it, and have it to buy gas with. My horse is
trained to load instantly and trailers well and I have him and my tack
ready before the friend arrives. I help clean the trailer after wards,
help with any other chores and frequently offer to buy lunch. As many
others are saying... hauling my horse and I is a favor that I am
eternally greatful for adn I will do my best to show my gratitude.

If you are sharing expenses with other friends, fine... figgure it out
amongs the friends and don't bother the person who is driving with the
details. Just present your form of gratitude with a smile

Just my opinion
