"I am wondering how many rides you all do a year and over what
distances? How long in between of two rides? Would like to see
whether perceptions are different in The States.

Greetings,

Seems like many riders around here do upwards of two or three 50+ milers a
month. Last fall, Star and I did a 60 mile ride one weekend and 90 miles
the next on very difficult rocky "mountains". Not what I usually like to
do, but no lameness and we completed. Usually I try to limit myself to
maximum of 2 rides a month with at least one weekend inbetween free. Also,
since I am poor, I can only afford 6 rides a year if I am lucky.

Of course, it all depends on the horse and the terrain. I would have no
problems taking my veteran horse on two 25 to 50 mile rides two weeks in a
row if the terrain were flat and easy.

A three week break is more than enough for any horse that is in good shape.
In fact, I would continue to condition for fear of losing too much muscle
over a long break.
