Re: [RC] AERC National Championship ride FUNDING

I would like to clear a few things up regarding AERC support of the national
championship.

In the past AERC solicited and obtained a sponsor for the national
championship ride. This sponsor paid for the awards for the national
championship in previous years. AERC supported the ride by giving free
monthly advertisements in Endurance News to promote the ride. There is
always an ongoing effort on the part of AERC to keep membership dues down,
and since there is such a small percentage of the membership who do
participate in the ride, the Board has been reluctant to take money from the
AERC budget to underwrite this ride.

However, this last year, the sponsor who had committed to again provide the
awards had financial problems and withdrew the sponsorship. At the mid-year
board meeting, the Board voted to spend $2,600 for the awards for the 2001
championship ride wich will be given in Reno. I don't know what you would
call it, but I would call free advertising and contributing $2,600 for
awards "supporting the ride".
