Re: [RC] Jobs and Training - Jennifer Judkins
Carrie, I generally give my horses a bit of a break in the winter. We live in the northeast and weather can be very unpredictable. Some winters we get iced in for days at a time. I worry more about horses breaking legs on the ice than training. That said, I work two horses: an 8 year old who has just finished two seasons of CTR successfully and a 5 year old who may or may not be an endurance candidate. With my older horse, I do alot of ground work and ring riding (alot of lateral bending and transitions) twice a week. We go out for a long hack once a week (10-20 miles, depending on the conditions on the trail). He stays fit with this program, but obviously not for the longer distance rides.
Unfortunately, I think if you are going to compete in a 50 or 100 early in the season, you gotta ride in the dark;-) Jennifer.

For those of you with full time jobs, how do you get in training time during the week in the winter months? I am starting 2 coming 4 year olds (for LD) and one 11 year old for the 2003 season. I have found that here in Texas, you can ride just about all year long but I am having problems finding time during the week because of the lack of daylight. Any suggestions?
Thank you. Carrie Stewart Carthage, Texas
