Re: [RC] riding in the rain - Truman Prevatt

My first real season of riding every ride was absolutely beautiful weather. It was more than made up for the next year where every ride but one was in the rain - sometimes very cold rain. I did my first and third hundred in the rain - one hundred frigging miles of rain. By second was done in freezing temps. It was so cold I got off to walk myself about 5 miles out to warm up. Then I had on so many clothes and was so still and couldn't find a log, ditch, etc. to get back on the 16-1 hell bitch so I walked the last 5 miles:-). At least I was warm.

Riding in the rain is not for wimps - but they do call it endurance riding.

Is it going to hurt my horse to ride in the rain if I have a rump rug on her?  It won't stop raining here and I am tired of waiting.  I'm also wondering, is it going to hurt me?  Because it seems like even when I have a raincoat on I still get pretty soaked.

My husband did his first 100 miler in the rain... and it rained and rained and rained. They completed with no ill effects of the rain other than running out of enough dry clothes to change into.
